Our Story

The Black Student Pharmacist Organization (BSPO) is a 5013c organization that was founded on February 19, 2019 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City by two students, Essence Daniels-Brewer (pictured, far right) and Charley Edwards (pictured, middle).

Essence and Charley started BSPO with the goal of supporting and enhancing the academic experience of Black students. The purpose of BSPO is to provide a space for Black students to feel a sense of community and belonging.

BSPO now has chapters at 3 universities across the United States. See more about each of our chapters here

“We’ve created this organization to help each other through the journey, but also to help those who will come after us build from that. It’s important for our future and for our current students.”

Dr. Essence Daniels-Brewer, UMKC SOP Class of 2021
